Weather Station

The weather station is a PEET Ultimeter 100 that is interfaced to the CAT 1000 controller.

The weather sensors are mounted on a tower at the North Peak. The rain gauge is a "tipping bucket" design that is used by commercial weather organizations. One drawback to this design in harsh weather conditions is that the bucket can collect snow, ice, etc. that remains in the bucket until warm temperatures prevail. This is why the system will read a very large amount of rain, when in fact, the sky is sunny and clear. It was impossible to put a heater on this unit given the location and the hazard of running electric to the unit.

The sensors have survived two winters (08-10) so far.
